Karen Lancel and Hermen Maat design objects, architectural environments and digital networks to create ‘meeting places’ in city public spaces. These ‘meeting places’ are designed as seductive, visual performances and installations.
Each ‘meeting place’ functions as an artistic ‘social lab’ in which the artists invite their audience as co-researchers. The audience is invited to experiment and play with social technologies; and to reflect on their perception of body, presence, identity and community.
Through their artworks Lancel and Maat research contemporary social systems in a mediated society. For every ‘meeting place’ they develop an especially designed montage of physical and virtual interaction. Through audience interaction Lancel and Maat show social portraits of urban mediated life.
Lancel is artist and practice based phd candidate at Technical Univesrity of Delft. Hermen Maat is artist and  teaches at Minerva Art academy Groningen.

Ontmoetingsplek.
Wij beschrijven en ontwerpen vanuit de (media-) kunsttheorie een reflectieve ‘ontmoetingsplek’ voor networking bodies. Deze ‘ontmoetingsplek’ is zowel een sociale ruimte, als een verleidelijk beeldend ikoon voor het deelnemende publiek. Bij dit onderzoek betrekken we de veranderende ideëen rond de noties van publieke en private ruimte; identiteit, tastbare lichaamsbeleving, presence, wederkerigheid en vertrouwen. De ‘ontmoetingsplek’ in ons werk is vervreemdend - maar biedt ook een reflectieve speelruimte voor een flexibele identiteit; en een hybride ervaring van het eigen, tastbare lichaam.
