Nomansland is a meeting place, a hybrid platform for exchange and debate, a conceptual space with a base on the web. nomansland initiates social interventions on the public domain, inviting the audience to meet in online chats, to participate on the website, to join offline discussions and performances. The audience is invited to exchange experiences about their personal relationships to the public environment, in order to create new connections between the public and the private space. nomansland offers a temporary freezone to discuss the need for an undefined area in the hyperdetermined public domain. Hyperplanned spaces create not only geographic, but also social and political borders. ‘A border can exclude, but it can also serve as an orientation and transitional space; a space in between.’ ‘nomansland stimulates an awareness of systems and mechanisms that form identity and policy within a globalizing society.’
Images of nomansland activities are presented on billboards, postcards and website.
nomansland.nu is a growing collective memory of nomansland, work in process.
Special thanks to Marjorieke Glaudemans
What does a nomansland mean for you? What does a border mean for you?
